As 2019 ends and 2020 will soon be here, it’s time to look back at a great year in the music industry, including every kind of singer and genre. We’ve been introduced to some amazing new musical talents, and this list covers some of their work – from the eccentric to the melancholic, and everything in between.

#1 “Juice”, Lizzo

In Music, 2019 will be the year of Lizzo. This funk-soul anthem is easily one of the biggest hits of 2019. The lyrics have inspired millions of fans, making the singer-songwriter an international phenomenon. The song is all about self-love, feeling good, and building confidence. The retro sound combined with the dancefloor qualities resulted in a song that’s here to stay, even into 2020.

#5 “Lights Up”, Harry Styles

This song was releases as the first single from Harry’s second album, “Fine Line”. The hit had an impressive marketing campaign – days before its release, numerous billboards appeared worldwide with the phrase “Do You Know Who You Are?”, a line taken from the song’s lyrics. Also, a website named “Do You Know Who You Are?” was set up. The website offered compliments to those who typed in their names, not a bad way to earn the public’s love!

#6 “Follow God”, Kanye West

This track is part of Kanye’s ninth studio album, “Jesus Is King”. The entire album follows Christian and religious themes, with elements of gospel music. The album was created with Kanye’s Sunday Service, a group of dozens of singers, which perform covers of the artist’s previously released sons and also gospel tunes. The group has been performing every Sunday since January 2019, but the event is exclusive and only a lucky few get to witness the magic.

#7 “Earfquake”, Tyler, the Creator

This track has become the best-selling and highest-charting song by Tyler to date, and is the lead single of his 2019 album, “Igor”. Tyler initially wrote “Earfquake” for Justin Bieber, but Bieber turned down the song. Later, Tyler asked Rihanna to add vocals to the track, but she was not interested, too. Tyler ended up recording the song on his own, and a hit was born.

#8 “Circles”, Post Malone

The song was released as part of the artist’s third album, “Hollywood’s bleeding”, and even reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 (Malone’s fourth song to achieve that). The song can be experienced in a cool way using Spotify and two phones – a synchronized dual-phone music video is said to add another layer of cool visuals for the fans.

#10 “Old Town Road”, Lis Nas X ft. Billy Ray Cyrus

Of course this list could not be complete without the biggest radio hit of the year (if not the decade). Widely labeled as “country rap”, the hit mixes genres and styles, creating a unique and catchy sound. The song initially gained popularity on the social app TikTok, and Lis Nas X later recorded a remix with country singer Billy Ray Cyrus – that’s when the sound really broke the internet. The song was involved in some controversy – it reached 19th on the Billboard Hot Country Songs, but was later disqualified on the grounds that it was not a true country song.
