The song initially gained popularity on the social app TikTok, and Lis Nas X later recorded a remix with country singer Billy Ray Cyrus – that’s when the sound really broke the internet. The song was involved in some controversy – it reached 19th on the Billboard Hot Country Songs, but was later disqualified on the grounds that it was not a true country song.
