New Year’s Eve will soon be here, and 2019 will be in our past. This is exactly the right time to get excited about new films that will be talked about by everyone next year. We’ve chosen 10 of the films that will make the most buzz in 2020, and as you’ll see – the hype is real.

#1 Wonder Woman 1984 – June 4

The first trailers for this gigantic follow-up file are already out, only getting the fans’ expectations higher and higher. Four decades later in the plot, Gal Gadot is back as Wonder Woman, and bizarrely enough, so is Steve Trevor, played by Chris Pine, even though he died in the first film. Also creating buzz is a new villain featured in this film – Cheetah, played by the hilarious Kristen Wiig of Saturday Night Live. For those nostalgic about the 80’s, the trailer features everything from digital watches to malls and Atari.

#2 No Time to Die – April 3

Daniel Craig is back as Agent 007. Bond. James Bond. The 25 installment of the Bond universe is highly anticipated, and with a production budget of 250 million dollars, we should expect nothing less than an action-packed thriller. The new bad guy in this film is played by Rami Malek, recently in the headlines for playing Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. Rumor has it that this is Craig’s last appearance as Bond, and the conversations about the next person to play the agent are already intensifying.

#3 Top Gun: Maverick – June 26

After many years of rumors and anticipation, a follow-up to the 1986 thrilling military movie is in the works. 34 years after the original, Tom Cruise, probably the biggest star in today’s Hollywood, is back as the main star. Cruise will play a flight instructor teaching a new student, Rooster, the son of Mavericks’ former partner from the first movie, Goose.  As with Tom’s movies, we can expect him to do many of the crazy stunts.

#4 Fast & Furious 9 – May 21

This blockbuster-in-the-making will be the tenth installment of The Fast and the Furious franchise (including Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw) and the ninth installment in the mainline. Many of the franchise’s original stars are back, including Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris and others. Paul Walker died tragically died in a car crash (2013), but his brother, Cody, will reportedly join the franchise – Paul’s face will be digitally imposed on his body, bringing back Paul’s beloved character, Brian O'Connor.

#5 Dolittle – January 16

Doctor John Dolittle is the central character of a famous series of children’s books, a doctor who can speak with animals and prefers their company on that of humans’. In this upcoming adventure comedy film, Robert Downey Jr. will star as Doctor Dolittle. The voice cast for the animals is incredible, and includes Emma Thompson, Rami Malek, John Cena, Tom Holland, Selena Gomez and many others.

#6 Black Widow – May 1

A new, highly anticipated part of the Marvel Universe (24th movie in it) is coming to theatres next year, starring Scarlett Johannsson as Black Widow. The plot will take place, chronologically, between two films – Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. The cast and crew talked about the film in 2019 San Diego Comic-con, and fans are already going wild. “It’s a little dirty; it’s a little salty. It brings some realness to the Marvel Universe.”, Johansson said.

#7 The Grudge – January 2

The Grudge was a 2004 Hollywood re-make of a Japanese horror film named Ju-On (2002). It starred Sarah Michelle Geller, and was a box-office success – with a budget of 10 miliion dollars, it made over 180 million. The blockbuster was followed by two sequels – The Grudge 2 and The Grudge 3. In 2020, a reboot of the franchise will be released, centering on a new set of characters, but guaranteed to have some references to the original three films.

#8 Mulan – March 25

Disney’s streak of live-action remakes of classics continues with this one (and dozens more planned). Starring Liu Yifel as Hua Mulan, the film will follow the same plot as the animated original from 1998. The film was originally supposed to be released in 2018, but was delayed, reportedly due to Disney’s full-year worldwide search for a star. Liu was chosen, one of China’s biggest actresses today, and soon the rest of the world will get to know her in this iconic role.

#9 Bad Boys for Life – January 16

After Bad Boys (1995) and Bad Boys II (2003), Miami Police Department detectives Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are back, mixing up action thrills and hilarious comedy. The fans were worried that a third entry to the franchise will never happen when the movie was pulled from the studio’s release schedule and lost its original director, but after confirmation Instagram by both of its stars and the release of a trailer, it seems that the long-awaited sequel is well on its way.

#10 Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley

This is a big one – 2020’s number one most anticipated film based on IMDb. Birds of Prey is the follow-up to the successful Suicide Squad (2016), and will include an all-female cast starring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Birds of Prey has been a central title in the DC Universe ever since the team with the same name was debuted in the comics in 1996, and fans can’t wait for the trio to hit the big screen.
